Heart and Heart and Heart (2010)
single channel video installation
F*** You... I Love You , The Mockbee, Cincinnati, OH, November 2010
The work involves the cultural love/hate relation ship that society has with changing technologies. The simple heartbeat of the video represents the "life" of video technology as well as the lifespan of the machine it it shown on. The short clip was dubbed over and over using a VHS player and tapes. The image slowly disintegrates due to the generational loss caused by the dubbing process. The heart beat loses color and shape, ultimately fracturing and disappearing.
